Concept Development Idea:

Idea 1
Synopsis
:

This is a 2D animation about a little girl who had lost her mother in an accident. She was left roaming in the street , fighting to survive. She was constantly abuse by the villagers because she was born without knowing who her father was, thus making her an outcast. One day, the village was burn to the ground and there were no survivors..except for her.

Research/Inspiration:

I got this idea from watching "the little match girl", the initial part of the story that i want to use from the little match girl is the idea of a young kid trying to survive but was shown no mercy. I then took it to the extreme where the kid was abuse verbally, physically and mentally.

The Little Match Girl

Idea 2
Synopsis:

This is a short 3D animation of a Ballerina Music-box. What appear to be a lifeless plastic ballerina twirling in circle comes to life when no one was looking. She for once become real, with expressions and with ability to dance around. She dance her heart out for no one but herself. After finishing her beautiful dance, she turn back into a lifeless plastic ballerina in a music box.

Research/Inspiration:

I was inspired to think of this idea from watching Toy Story. I want to portray an idea of someone or something with greater ability but was never given an opportunity to show it and so with this ballerina, even though she dances beautifully, she has to retun to being a plastic ballerina.

Toy Story

Idea 3
Synopsis
:

This is a 2D animation of a high school boy who has nothing to look forward to in life. He is neither good in his sports nor is he good in his academy. One day, he saw a girl standing by the river crying. He immediately ran towards her amusing she was trying to commit suicide. He slip and hit his head on a rock. He fell into the river, before becoming unconscious he saw something blinking at the bottom of the river. He woke up in a whole new world with weird creatures and his journey begins as he finds his way back to his world

Research/Inspiration:

I love the animated film "Spirited Away" therefore I came up with this 3rd idea. Although the idea I had do no have spirits, it adopt the idea of the main character entering a new place, and gaining something along the way.

Spirited Away

Idea 4
Synopsis:

Mia enters a run down house, with the intention to kill. A flash back of her life and the day when her parents were killed by a robber. She soon finds out the robber was the man she saw regularly at the train station collecting empty cans. She followed him to his run down house and there she was in the beginning of the story.

Research/Inspiration:

I was watching this new anime called "Bamboo Blade" and one of the character in the anime is a cheerful girl who is the manager of a kendo club. I thought to myself, what if she lose something close to her, could that change her and what changes would that be, thus I came up with the 4th idea.

Bamboo Blade

Class Task 3: Book Cover

GROTESQUE
NATSUO KIRINO
Publisher: HARVILL
Category: CRIME FICT
TRADE PAPERBACK, $32.95, In Stock (Stock On Order) Which Shop?
Two prostitutes have been murdered in Tokyo. Yuriko had been working as a prostitute all her adult life, starting while still at school, where her stunning beauty compensated for what she lacked in intellect and commanded attention from older men. Kazue worked for a blue-chip company and had good career prospects, but was unpopular with colleagues and felt isolated. She chose to walk the streets at night where she hoped to get noticed. Twenty years previously both women were educated at an elite school for young ladies, and both exhibited exceptional promise prior to their brutal , unnecessary deaths. How and why did this tragedy occur? With narration from Yuriko's embittered, unattractive sister and through the girls' journals and diaries Kirino allows their shocking story to unfurl. As with OUT, Grotesque gets under the skin, and Kirino's analysis of the female psyche grips the reader. The extreme need to succeed, and the vicious desire to be accepted in the bewildering environment of modern life is explored here with acute and chilling insight. Grotesque is a masterful and haunting achievement.

Assignment Task 2: Article

Woman killed partner over Bruce Springsteen ban

A WOMAN stabbed her de facto husband to death after he stopped her playing her favourite Bruce Springsteen CD.
Karen Lee Cooper told arresting police: "I couldn't even play Bruce Springsteen on my stereo - can you believe that? Can you believe that?"
She later again told police: "I mean, who doesn't like Bruce Springsteen?"
"I'm 49 years old and I want to play my own music."
In the Supreme Courty in Brisbane today, Cooper, 50, was jailed for eight years.
She pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Kevin Lee Watson on July 8, 2006.
She was originally charged with murder but the Crown accepted a manslaughter plea on the basis she had no intention to kill.
The court heard Cooper stabbed Watson through the aorta after they had been drinking at their Cedar Grove home, south of Brisbane.

-I find this article rather freaky, to think that someone would go to that extreme just because she couldn’t listen to her favorite CD. This made me ponder on our capability to kill; even those who would not harm a fly are capable of committing such crime. It is definitely a frightening thought, that at the end of the day we have an instinct of an animal. A dog will always bite back when it is being abuse, unfortunately that applies to us too. So it’s fair to say that emotions can be very dangerous, especially anger and it could cause us to do things that we never thought we are capable of doing.

Concept development:
After her mum died, she had no place to go. She roam the street looking for food to survive.
The villagers aren't sympathetic towards her because she was born without a father. They treated her
badly, leaving her with nothing to eat and constantly abusing her. Till one day when an old lady told
her that her existence is a waste, the little girl snap. While the whole villagers are asleep, she pour
oil around every houses in the village and burn the whole village down.

Assignment Task 1: Hayao Miyazaki

Hayao Miyazaki is a film director, screenwriter and a character designer. He is the co-founder of Studio Ghibli, an animation and production company. Miyazaki is widely known for directing children animated films such as Laputa, Howl’s Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, Fireflies and many more. His animated films were unknown to the Western society, not until the release of Princess Mononoke (1997). His recent film, Spirited Away became very successful, thus being the first animated film to win an Academy Award.

Miyazaki creates dynamic characters that cannot be categorized easily as good or evil. Many hostile characters have extenuating features like Yubaba in Spirited Away. Miyazaki’s films unlike many other animated films does not reach a climax when evil is being triumph over but rather when a character reconciled. Miyazaki says, “The heroine [in Spirited Away] is thrown into a place where the good and bad dwell together…She manages not because she has destroyed the evil, but because she has acquired the ability to survive”

Miyazaki film is created with no fundamental base of script. He develops his story through storyboards and the production begins soon after. “We never know where the story will go but we just keep working on the film as it develops. It’s a dangerous way to make an animation film and I would like it to be different, but unfortunately, that’s the way I work and everyone else is kind of forced to subject themselves to it” quoted from Miyazaki in Midnight Eye interview.

Class Task 1: Alien

This is Stellaring Fuzzner reporting back about my investigation on earth, all is not well over here my fellow men. I have uncovered a dark and revolting secret of this alien race, and must warn you all that they are aware of our existence. Though the masses of these aliens appear to be brainless conforming imbeciles, they seem to have devised a method of torture and imprisonment to our kind that we never thought possible.

As all of you know, there have been many accounts of explorers such as me disappearing upon arrival at earth. I believe I have found the true reason behind this. Yesterday, I secretly watched a small colony of these aliens bring home a large case, from which they pulled out a shiny black disc-like object with texture and shiny blackness resembling out skin. They placed the unidentified object onto a weird contraption, and after doing something to the machine the black object was forcefully spun around from the middle which had a hole drilled through it. What happened next was completely and utterly disturbing. The most horrific shrieks of alien speak thundered through their squarish habitat, whilst they tortured the object with a pointed weapon that was stabbed and left slashing the object while it was being spun. This was when it daunted upon me that the shiny black disc was no object, it was a living thing!

I continued to watch in disgust, with my heart heavily thumping and jaw-dropped till they finally stopped with what I realised must have been an interrogation of some sort towards the disc-like creature. They then removed it gently as if to show some sort of false compassion to the creature, before imprisoning it in its tiny cage. When nightfall came and the moon was up, the aliens had fallen into deep slumber in their own divided sections of the habitat. I snuck up to the drawer I saw them place the caged shiny black creature and carefully opened it. Lying before me was not just one but LOTS of these creatures, all of them imprisoned in similar cages. I pull one of them out and slowly slide it out of its cage. The next thing I witnessed struck within me the greatest fear I had ever known and felt in my entire life.

Carved or perhaps tattooed into the top of the creature was the name of our most famed and first ever explorer, whom we lost all contact with upon his arrival to earth, Hendrix Jimmy! These weren’t just shiny black creatures! These creatures were none other than our own people! They must have formulated a way that allows them to squash us flat into circular shapes, before drilling a hole through our heads and brainwashing us into speaking their disgusting languages.

I am sad to announce that this is a dark hour for me my friends, my space transportation mobile has somehow disappeared from my sight. Do not by any means send another to rescue me, for it could ultimately cause the doom for another of our own. I will take my own life before they claim it for their sadistic pleasures.

Stay clear of earth my friends,
Stellaring Fuzzner
